From here, they kept an eye on life below. From time to time, they would interfere in what was going on. They could send storms if they were angry and decide who was victorious in wars. Sometimes they even played tricks on humans too.

Every city in Greece had a 'patron' god or goddess. People believed patron gods protected them from harm. When people needed help from the gods, they went to the temple to pray. They might go if they were feeling sick, going on a journey or worried about the harvest on the farm. To please the gods, people brought gifts of money, flowers, food and drink.
They offered these gifts as sacrifices. Animals, like cattle, were sometimes killed as sacrifices. Mythology and Autism - Susan Deacy: When did Herakles live?
About Emma Stafford. Book Description Condition: New. His story has so many more episodes concerning his life and death as well as his battles with monsters and other opponents. In literature, he appears in our earliest Greek epic and lyric poetry and is reinvented for the tragic and comic stage. In art, his exploits are among the earliest identifiable mythological scenes, and with lion skin and club he was a familiar sight throughout antiquity in sculpture, vase-painting and other media.
He was held up as an ancestor and role-model for both Greek and Roman rulers, his unusual status as a hero-god being reinforced by the story of his apotheosis. Surveying both Greek and Roman sources and modern scholarship, Stafford presents a vivid account of this important mythical figure and ancient Greece's most popular hero.
